What were those people doing?!

May 10th, 2008 Posted in Coronado News, Special Events in Coronado

If you were at the Ferry Landing this morning around 10:00am then you probably saw a large group of people gathering for a group picture in different areas down by the bay.  What you witnessed was the WWFMIII, short for 3rd annual World Wide Flash Mob and what was happening was a gathering of people who were participating in geo-caching.

A flash mob is a gathering of people at a predetermined place and time that they must find using a GPS receiver, and then pose for a group photo.  The goal is to get 3 pictures at various locations from 10:00am - 10:15 am then quickly disperse.  The fun thing about this is all of the bystanders have no idea what’s going on.  This morning’s gathering was part of something bigger that included 96 events scheduled to happen in 12 countries, 9 Canadian Provinces and 37 US states today.
