Coronado sits out the rain
February 25th, 2008 Posted in Coronado NewsCoronado has sustained little damage from recent storms. Today’s storm was predicted to have heavy winds, but only produced steady light rain as of mid-afternoon. Scott Huth, City of Coronado Public Works director, told the Union Tribune that other than spots of flooding the only other casualty of the storms has been a downed 25 foot palm tree in the vicinity of 9th & C Avenue, but no damage occurred to the area surrounding the downed tree.
Beaches from the border to Silver Strand State Beach in southern Coronado are closed due to contamination from sewage runoff from the Tijuana River. A general advisory warning against water activities for 72 hours after rainfall remains in effect for all coastal ocean waters. (More info on Coronado Beaches……)
As of Friday, the rain totals for the year (beginning July 1) at Lindbergh Field were at 6.5 inches, still under what is considered the normal total of 7 inches.
