March 19th, 2008 Posted in Coronado News

Coronado Museum of History and Art announces its latest exhibit ”Talismans of the Turkoman: Traditions of a Warrior Tribe,”  featuring Turkoman tribes of Central Asia and includes rare displays of their textiles and jewelry.   Collected in Afghanistan over 40 years ago, this private collection is a rare opportunity to view this private collection.

The early Turkoman tribes raised horses, sheep and camels, generally from an area east of the Caspian Sea to Afghanistan. They were sophisticated carpet weavers and had an elaborate jewelry tradition.

The museum is located at 1100 Orange Avenue and is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekends. Admission is a suggested donation.   The shows runs through May 29.
